Dance Hall regulation to Entertainment Hall regulation?
| May 13, 2002 |
The City Administration (the city bureaucracy working under the Mayor) proposed draft legislation that would apply some of the same Dance Hall restrictions and apply them to all Entertainment establishments and single Entertainment events. Provo City found this legislation in San Diego—a city that really does need that type of regulation. But applying this kind of regulation would just seem absurd in Provo. Muse Music, Comedy Sportz, Papa Lee’s and other venues do not have the kind of problems that this legislation is meant to control. Can you imagine having to pay extra money for admission so that Muse Music can hire certified security guards (not cheap)? Metal detectors would not only change the atmosphere of our little store/venue but would increase the price. If you think this is silly the way I do, call city council: 852-6120. At that phone number, you’ll be able to request all the info you need to contact city council.
